

There are not enough social houses in Medway. Developers are keen to build – but only for profit.
We have had heard numerous stories where Medway people are unable to find suitable Council accommodation and had to resort to private landlords.
The average house price in Medway was £287,000 in June 2024 (provisional), similar to the revised figure for June 2023. Across the South East, the average house price rose slightly by 2.0% over the same period. Private rents rose to an average of £1,100 in July 2024, an annual increase of 10.6% from £995 in July 2023.
Chatham’s River Ward was found to be the most deprived area of Medway (September 2022), taking the 144th spot out of 32,844 locations in England, where number 1 is the most deprived, placing it amongst the 10 per cent most deprived neighbourhoods in the country.
